Corbyn is right about ISIS

ISIS Paris 650

On 13 November 2015, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks—consisting of mass shootings, suicide bombings, and hostage-taking—occurred in the French capital Paris and its northern suburb of Saint-Denis. 139 totally innocent people were murdered in what can only be described as a terrorist atrocity. And the world’s press and social media went into paroxysms of outrage, followed by our useless politicians. Yet all context was lost. In the overall scheme of things the reaction has been incredible unbalanced. And here is why:

1) We started it. We started bombing and killing ISIS on 8 August 2014. ISIS had not taken a single action against any Western country before then. But on 19 August 2014 they killed James Wright Foley in retaliation. In reality we had destabilised the whole Middle East with the illegal 2003 invasion of Iraq, before which there was close to zero Jhihadi activity in the whole region. And then we made things a lot worse with CIA/MI6/Mossad trying to foment revolution throughout the area in the Arab Spring of 2011. We started killing ISIS when it was absolutely non of our business. They were massacring the Yazidi people as part of their efforts to build a Sunni Islamic Caliphate in the power vacuum that existed in Syria and Iraq. Just as the USA massacred the native Americans when building their country and the Israelis massacred the Palestinians when building theirs. And if we interfere on behalf of the Yazidis then why not on behalf of the Rohingya people in Myanmar or the oppressed citizens of North Korea? We are not the world’s police force.

2) Islamic State is a country. Bigger than great Britain, with their own money, passports, police, local government courts etc. It is run by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who has a PhD in Islamic studies. Around the world there are ISIS “clients”, in Nigeria, Sinai, Libya, Yemen etc But these are separate organisations that happen to share the same brand values. They are not controlled by al-Baghdadi. There are also Lone Wolves, who are radicalised individuals who commit terrorist acts in the name of ISIS whilst having no connection whatsoever. ISIS is happy to take credit for the actions of their clients and Lone Wolves because it adds to their brand. The first ever proper, confirmed ISIS “terrorism” was on 12 November 2015 when  two suicide bombers detonated explosives in Bourj el-Barajneh, a southern suburb of Beirut, Lebanon, killing 43 people. Almost certainly retaliation against the Shias for bringing Russia into the conflict. The second ever proper, confirmed ISIS terrorism was in Paris the next day. The earlier downing of a Russian A321 airliner in Sinai which killed 224 people was most probably the action of the ISIS Sinai client. If you want to know more about the Sunni country that is Islamic State then  VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access. You can watch her video here (click highlighted text to open).

3) Islamic State are not the worst. Saudi Arabia and ISIS share exactly the same barbaric primitive cult of Islam called Wahhabism. Saudi Arabia behead people for petty offences, they cut off hands and feet, they gouge out eyes and they sever spinal cords. And they are our close friend and ally. For a while now, largely unreported by the West, they have been massacring their fellow Muslims in the country of Yemen, on religious grounds, because they are Shias. Nearly 6,000 people have been killed and more than 26,000 wounded. Then there is Israel which indiscriminately bombarded Gaza last year for 49 days killing well over 2,000 people, many of whom were women and children. Human Rights Watch concluded that Israel had probably committed war crimes on three specific incidents. Amnesty International stated that: “Israeli forces have carried out attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians”. Also there is President Assad in Syria. He regards anyone not on his side, including women and children, as a target. He has dropped thousands of barrel bombs (barrel bomb link), full of explosive and shrapnel, from helicopters onto markets, bread queues, schools and residential areas. More than quarter of a million people have been killed in the conflict thus far with up to a half of these being non-combatants, just civilians going about their daily lives. When questioned nearly 80% of Syrian refugees say they are fleeing Assad. He is a far, far bigger problem than ISIS.

4) We are being used. Our policy, directed by our governments, to all the Middle East conflicts is not conducted in the interest of our country or the people who live here. The fact is that the Conservative Party is owned by the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) just like the Labour Party is owned by the trade unions. CFI has more than 2,000 activist members embedded throughout the Conservative Party, including 80% of its MPs, it takes Conservative parliamentarians and candidates on freebie jaunts to Israel, campaigns hard for Jewish Conservative candidates in target seats, and works to ensure that Israel’s case gets priority in Parliament. It contributes massively to Conservative election funding and long time CFI director Stuart Polak was recently elevated to the House of Lords. Senior Conservative politicians make regular trips to Israel to confer with Netanyahu, Boris Johnson has just come back. This influence isn’t just in the Conservative Party, Jewish interests control or own most of the press and the BBC has a definite Zionist bias. The same in America with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) which wields enormous and disproportionate power throughout all American public life. So what this all means is that what our politicians say and do and what our media tell us is all controlled from Jerusalem. Your government and press act in the best interests of Zionism. Your brain contains a completely distorted view of the world because of this. Just look at the Paris hysteria and compare it to everything else above.

So what is coming out of this? Are we being softened up to sacrifice more of our boys on pointless missions in the sands of the Middle East? We cannot beat ISIS because it is an idea embedded in the minds of hundreds of millions of Sunni Arabs. If we were not controlled from Jerusalem we would be talking to ISIS by now.

Assad has not attacked ISIS but instead fights all the other opposition forces (Assad actually works WITH ISIS). He is trying to present a polar alternative to the world, it is either him or ISIS. But in the real world he is very many times worse than ISIS. Russia has followed the same policy of leaving ISIS alone and just attacking the forces directly opposing Assad. Even after losing their A321 they have gone softly, they must know it was an ISIS client. They launched a pile of cruise missiles at Raqqah but amazingly these seem to have crashed into nearby fields.

People compare Assad and the Syria situation with Saddam Hussein and Qaddafi. This is very wrong, in Iraq and Libya the civil war happened after the dictator was deposed, in Syria the civil war happened with the dictator in place. After 5 years of conflict the territory and front lines of the warring factions are pretty static. If Assad went now it could not possibly make things worse, and he is a monster and war criminal on such a huge scale that he just cannot stay. The quickest and easiest solution to Syria and Iraq is partition, pretty much along the existing front lines, recognising the country of Islamic State. It doesn’t fit the agenda our politicians and press are following but it makes the most practical sense on the ground.

Perhaps the biggest problem is Saudi Arabia, they have spend 50 years and hundreds of millions of dollars promoting and exporting their primitive, extremist form of Islam, Wahhabism. They are the main cause and sponsors of terrorism in the world. On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 there were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States killing 2,996 people. Of the 19 hijackers 15 came from Saudi Arabia (KSA), 2 from UAE, 1 from Egypt and 1 from Lebanon. Their leader Osama bin Laden was also from KSA.

Then there is the migrant swarm into Europe. We cannot handle this and maintain our Western civilisation. They must go back. So the sooner that Syria is sorted the better. This requires pragmatism and sense, not a Jerusalem driven holy war built on half truths and misconceptions. On this whole Middle East question Jeremy Corbyn is right and David Cameron is wrong. Very wrong.

  1. Bruce –
I wrote the same thing on a blog response.
We need to get out of there and let their fellow countries deal with it.
I especially agree with #1 and #2 – the France president
failed to tell his people that they were already at war with ISI

  2. So your response to ISIS is the allow them to continue to enslave Yezhidi women? To recognise them and give them legitimacy? To enable them to set up yet another dictatorship. Am just plain disgusted at this.

    1. teachwell,

How is Islamic State worse than the Syrian and Iraqi governments that it replaces?
Assad is a monster, probably the biggest and worst torturer of other human beings in history: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/01/they-were-torturing-to-kill-inside-syrias-death-machine-caesar
In Iraq the Shia militias are animals, committing atrocities in every way as bad as ISIS.
You obviously know nothing about the region and the conflicts other than what the BBC feeds you.
I suggest you do some in depth research with no confirmation bias before spouting off.

  3. They are not as bad as the worst is one of the least compelling arguments once can make. It is Daesh that has said that its aim is to eliminate the greyzone for Muslims, and make them choose between renouncing Islam or joining their bogus caliphate, as if those are the only choices. It is a reverse mirror image of Bush’s “with us or against us” and it is as stupid and destructive coming from them as it was coming from the moron Dubya.

Sometimes you choose the lesser of two evils. Sometimes you simply kick the shit out of someone because they did something really bad and deserve to have the shit kicked out of them. I have no sympathy for vicious murderers like Daesh any more than I do for right ring nut jobs who make apologies for rank bigotry. They all come from the same well of hatred. I think we should all buy a large popcorn, grab a seat, and watch it like the train wreck everybody knows it’s going to be.

We are hypocritical if we don’t apply equivalence. Saudi with their barbaric criminal justice system, their attacks on Yemen and their promotion of Wahhabi Jihad around the world are far worse for humanity than ISIS are. The Shia militias in Iraq are just as brutal, bloodthirsty and ruthless as ISIS, they just don’t publicise their nefarious activities. The Zionists in Israel have been practicing genocide and apartheid for more than 70 years and have stolen nearly the whole of a country from the Palestinian people. If we are choosing the lesser/greater of evils then we should deal with these heathens before dealing with ISIS.

We really are occupying the moral low ground with our hypocrisy.

  4. Good points all around, Bruce. In my opinion, however, the Middle East is now a vortex of evil and it does almost no good at all to rate the monsters from 1-10. The hand cutters, clitoris choppers, beheaders and rapists are all bad news, whatever their reasons and “styles” of Islam and/or despotism. God save us from them through the clarity of insights such as yours, if there is time, which I doubt.
